I’ve always felt that fitness chose me, and not the other way around. It may sound completely ridiculous to one person but to those who share in my passion, those are the people I want to surround myself with, who truly gets it. I’ve always been interested in sports and from a young age I knew that it was what I needed most to get through some very challenging circumstances I had to face growing up, it completed me, it gave me relief. It fed my soul.
I started my fitness journey at only 18 years old, and little did I know then that this would become my first love and that this would soon become not only my health and fitness path but my career path as well. I’m sure most people can relate, but have you ever felt your heart sinking when looking at yourself in the mirror? That feeling where you think you’ll never get out of this hole that you’ve dug for yourself? I have.
I had to make the decision to live a healthier life. And it was just that, a decision. A choice. I wanted to change and I did. I went on to lose around 15kg. It was the addiction feeling that washed over me at that time, you know the one where they tell you once you start it becomes an addiction? A part of your everyday? You crave it?
That’s when I fell in love with weight training. The fact that humans had the ability to sculpt their bodies ,depending on how hard they worked, into what they wanted to by a range of methods i.e weight training, functional training and cardio. The list goes on! The possibilities and tools are endless! But what makes the difference is you. I learned that very early on. That you only get out what you put in.Training is something you do for yourself,no one else. Your amount of dedication and discipline will determine the results you achieve.
I started training a few of my friends to help them lose weight, while studying law at the time.It was then that I discovered my new found passion to help others and change their bodies, to help them reach their goals and to guide them to become fit and healthy. I decided to follow my heart and become a personal trainer and from the very start, I wanted my own facility where I could train my clients , my way. I wanted to be a fitness ambassador, a role model , and to provide my clients with the knowledge and education on the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle through proper diet and training. Above all else, I wanted to educate my clients, that if they ever chose to carry on training by themselves, they will have the knowledge on what healthy living truly is, and make the correct choices when feeding their bodies.
I wanted to create a place where I could share my knowledge and passion for fitness and provide an environment where the average joe,the competitor, the housewife , the single mother in all shapes and sizes could come and experience ‘the fit life’ without having to worry about being judged. Where they could feel comfortable and at home, where they could fall in love with their bodies. I wanted to help people become the best version of themselves and to help them grow.
What I love most about my job is seeing how individuals flourish mentally and emotionally, when they actually get to that point where they feel more comfortable with their bodies and health overall. Helping others is my biggest passion and provides me with the largest amount of satisfaction. Ultimately I chose this job, not only because I wanted to share my knowledge and help others, but mostly because I love to seeing others happy. With a smile on their face and living the most positive life that they can. If I can contribute even a little bit to that happiness, I’ve achieved my goal.
